The Stratford upon Avon Guild
of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers
Talks and Demonstrations

In the early 1970’s there was an Adult Education class at Stratford College, from these beginnings our Guild was founded in 1975.  We are members of the National Association of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers.

We welcome all opportunities to demonstrate our craft, so please don't hesitate to contact us if there is an event that you think we could assist with by attending.

Our members have regularly demonstrated at Mary Arden’s Farm, one of the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust properties, as well as attending open Farm Days and village fetes around the county.  We also take part in Worldwide Spin in public day, and Britspin – the British Wool spinning 4 day marathon event linked to the UK Wool Week each October.

See our History page for our past demonstrations and exhibitions.

Our aims, at all of these events, are the preservation and improvement of the craftsmanship in hand weaving, spinning and dyeing for the benefit of the public and the promotion of public education in such craftsmanship.

Our Guild members are also available to give talks and demonstrations of our crafts to local groups.  ‘Spinning, then and now..’ is an illustrated talk on the history of spinning followed by demonstrations of spindles, wheels and the E-spinner – a 21st century compact electric spinner.  Your group members will also have the opportunity to have a go at spinning!

If you would like to receive further details of this talk, or discuss other talks or workshops in Spinning, Weaving, Dyeing, Felting or Braiding please email our committee members on  wsdstratford@gmail.com with information about your requirements and group.
