REMINDER - MARCH MEETING - Rigid Heddle: Beyond the Basics this Saturday
For those participating in the workshop on Saturday - DON'T FORGET ....
Preparation & what you need to bring
Participants will have these items available within the group, but you may wish to bring your own if you have something suitable (to help reduce queueing):1. Smooth string/yarn for making the continuous heddles
2. Marker pens - for those who go on to do heddle making in the afternoon.
3. Stiff card to cut into a piece 22cm x 9.5cm- again for heddle making.
4. Masking tape.
5. Scissors
Participants will also need (for individual use):
1. Your loom, reeds and shuttles. The loom should be warped up in advance with a relatively narrow (c7") warp.* Dawn suggests that its important it is to keep something familiar when le arning new techniques so you may want to use a familiar warp yarn - one that is stable and easy to work with. Bring appropriate heddle reeds that give you a balanced (or near enough) sett.2. A supply of your warp yarn, in addition to a selection of yarns in various colours and smooth and fun textures - we’ll need some of both. Wool tops also make interesting ‘yarn’ for one of the techniques. (NB if you are not warping your own loom do not worry about matching the warp, just bring smooth and textured threads).
3. Two smooth sticks about 1" wide and a couple of inches wider than their warp
4. A dowel rod of similar length to this stick.
5. Printed handouts (Dawn will bring these for use during the day).
If you are unable to bring items 6 or 7 please let Chris (peglerpurl@gmail.com) know in advance.
She can source these and provide you with a set (12" wide) for an additional 50p charge.
Do you need assistance?
If you need help getting a warp on or tensioning it then please shout out BEFORE 16th, and makesure you are there early on that date.
Chris will be around to help during the day (as non-participant) and will answer questions in
advance if you contact her beforehand.
