NEXT GUILD MEETING - Saturday 13th April 2019
April meeting: Stash ID and an introduction to Shafted Looms
Have you ever bought a fibre that came without a label, or lost
the label long ago? Have you been given/bought a fibre with an 'I think its
wool, not sure' message? Perhaps you are a vegan and want to avoid using wool
or other animal fibres. You might be making a gift for someone who is
intolerant to wool. Alternatively, have you a cone or ball of something and
don't know whether you have enough yards for the pattern or the weaving
project? At our next meeting we will be trying techniques and tips to help
solve some stash mysteries.
During the afternoon members are invited to explore Chris'
shafted loom collection. From 2-12 shafts she hopes to have 10 looms warped up
and ready for you to explore. One of these we hope will be John Davies'
never-before-used loom, completing his big loom project and offering guild
members a chance to throw a pick or two on his loom.
Another loom on show will be the Swedish style band weaving loom
which Chris' husband has just made for her. Her two big Swedish style looms are
pictured here - quite a change of scale from the rigid heddle looms we used
last meeting at Dawn's workshop!
IMPORTANT NOTE: This meeting will be at Chris' home at Stretton
on Dunsmore (not at Stratford). Please contact her for her very specific
directions if you have never visited before and consult the April newsletter
for more detail about this event. If you are not a member and would like to
attend this event please email wsdstratford@gmail.com.
