MOVING INTO JUNE WITH COLOUR
COLOUR IN ALL ITS GLORY!
In June we should have been helping with the organization of the Association's weekend on the subject of Colour, and the week before we had a printing workshop booked for the guild.
The workshop has been postponed to next year, and of course the weekend is cancelled. But that doesn't mean that we can't spend time this month thinking what Colours mean to us, and how best to use them in our lives. Years ago I went to a talk on Colour and the speaker pointed out that if a friend tells you that they have new curtains, the first question you ask is “What Colour ?” The fibre content and weave structure are secondary . We all have favourite Colours. Sometimes they are the ones which suit our skin and hair tones, sometimes they are associated with a special time or person.
- Do you know why you like one particular shade ?
- Or are there Colours which you really dislike ?
- Do you know why ?
It would be interesting to hear your thoughts. Please share your thoughts via the Groups io link.
We have some of the primary Coloured fleece which we used last year to experiment with blending. So the challenge for June for
As rainbows feature so much in our lives at present, how many rainbow colours could you produce from these primary Colours and/or your own dyeing (July!)?
Spinners could spin up the colours and make something small as a souvenir – book mark ? key fob ? If you don't spin you might felt or create a fleece picture. Even if you don't have carders or dog combs, fingers can work wonders teasing out and layering.
If you would like a handful of blue, yellow and red, email wsdguild@gmail.com and we will post some to you.
For our July meeting we usually try various ways of dyeing. So in preparation for next month's focus start collecting anything you want to use.
July would also have been the entries for the National Exhibition, so will be putting a gallery on our Groups.io forum for members to see. Put your work up on the photo gallery and the chats!
Looking forward to seeing the results!
