MAY 44th BIRTHDAY MEETING - 18th MAY
Getting Better At Learning about Alpaca Fleece & Soft Furnishings Challenge
May is the Guild's 44th Birthday meeting and we have some learning in the morning -
Getting Better At session on Alpaca led by Liz Davies, followed by birthday
lunch (please bring a plate of food to share).
Alpaca is one of the more luxurious of the UK-grown fibres that we use in our crafts, but do you know your Huacaya from your Suri, and can you tell a really lovely fleece from a less lovely?
Alpaca is one of the more luxurious of the UK-grown fibres that we use in our crafts, but do you know your Huacaya from your Suri, and can you tell a really lovely fleece from a less lovely?
Liz will help us understand this fleece
better during this morning session (10.30-12.00) and is in an excellent
position to do so. She has kept a small herd of breeding alpaca since 2013 and
last year a fleece from one of her herd (Snapdragon Samurai) won three prizes
at the Three Counties Show including Best British Fleece and Reserve Champion
(Huacaya fleeces).
Liz will have examples of different qualities for us to
learn from and invites you to bring along your own examples if you would like
an assessment of its potential.
In the afternoon we will be
displaying and voting on work completed for the Household Item
Challenge. See newsletter email for more information.
