About SAORI Weaving
SAORI
weaving is a contemporary form of handweaving, originating in Japan, that
encourages creativity and self-expression.
- There are no patterns to follow
- Weavers use simple techniques to create individual patterns, which can be very simple or quite complex, depending on the wishes of the person weaving.
- ‘Mistakes’ and ‘flaws’ are very much allowed, even encouraged, as they are considered to add to the beauty of the weaving
- The main focus is on having fun and expressing yourself
Lunch 12.30 pm – 1.30 pm
Workshop/Taster Session:
1.45 pm– 2.45 pm
There are
a few places on the Taster Session taught by Amanda in the afternoon, which
will last one hour. Participants will have the opportunity to experiment with
some freeform weaving techniques on pre-threaded SAORI looms and take away a
beautiful, unique piece of woven cloth. Guild members cost for this
session is £5 (max 4 so places limited). This session includes all materials
(though participants may like to bring some of their own ‘bits and pieces’ to
incorporate into the cloth, e.g. bits of ribbon, left over yarn, beads or
roving).
If you
are not able to make the guild Saori taster sessions please contact Amanda
directly to find out other dates when she runs these taster sessions, which
cost £15.00 pp. http://www.beautifulcloth.co.uk
